Without question, those 19th century bound books with marbled edges are truly marvelous to behold, and depending on their content, they might provide for hours of β inner-fun. β π I bet they smell pretty good too! π
Anyway!
I came upon this particular image via this poster, and quickly found the source thereafter. I had saved it as a draft before, but then (UH OH) I began thinking! π As I often come across this meme, while browsing around, and perusing through stuff of interest to me.
One of those interests is compiling my own software, for my own needs and demands. Therefore I’ve read source-code before, and I’ve done the whole configure, make, make install routine before. For example the ffmpeg tutorial, which can be found here.
Yet it hasn’t happened to me, to see source-code configure itself out, creating itself, (out of thin air perhaps) and finally deciding, all without my consent, where to install itself to. If it did, or could do so, then the terms of spyware, adware, viruses, et alii, come to my mind. All of which have adverse connotations. So depending of one’s fear of the unknown, it might persuade someone to believe that technology, and everything a decent computer might offer its owner!? Is not worth his or her time, which is a shame, really.
Therefore, and as for a last: The reading of books, and the compilation of software, do have similarities. Yet, the mere act of reading source-code, or books doesn’t install jack shit. So in order for the β it’s called reading β meme to be true. One has to (con)figure things out for themselves, and make β install β it happen themselves. All in good time, and in small steps.
