Not only is it difficult, because honestly … Who can claim to never have burned him/herself? I know I can’t. I’d be a liar, and a hypocrite, if I claimed I did.

Anyway.

It’s not about the regret, or the remorse. It’s about how you deal with it. One way is, by not dealing with it at all. Another would be to just accept the wrongs you did (Whether those are entirely on your part, or not? Is up for debate. 😉 ), and carry on. You can’t undo the past, but you can look to the future.
