Scandinavian Folklore …and how to survive it.
Scandinavian Folklore
…and how to survive it.

There is a #national #secret #hidden #beyond the frozen #fjords and underneath the #northern lights. #Scandinavians know their #folklore, and #mythology — because we live surrounded by it, wherever we go. The #industrial revolution drove #people to the #cities, leaving behind a vast land of #nature, which with #time became something #strange, and #dark. #Mothers would warn their #children from going out after dark, for now that #humans had left the #snow #clad #mountainsides, the #deep #forests, and the dark #lakes, the #creatures, and #spirits of the #Old Ages had reclaimed their #home. The #world of #Scandinavian mythology has rarely been written down in great #detail, much still #survives as #fairytales; but in this #post, I — as a native — will give you the #basics, some tips on how to survive, where to go — if you want to find them — and some external sources, if you want to #delve #deeper — into the #strange, and #magical world, every Scandinavian knows exists right outside our doors.
